So Vern White's reaching out to the community in response to the Stacy Bonds scandal, wanting everyone to know that the Ottawa police take this sort of thing very seriously.


However, as Stageleft points out:

Colour me skeptical..... but I would think that if you have an officer that is already a known abuser of prisoners you wouldn't put that individual in charge of prisoners if you really did take that sort of thing seriously.

It's just that sort of cynicism that undermines faith in public institutions. Stageleft, when my kid doesn't get a pony this Christmas ... I'll be looking at you.
