And again.
Either the Vancouver Police and the corporate media are taking stupid pills, or they're serving some agenda.
Now let's think about this: who benefits from mischaracterizing the riots as the work of anarchists and political activists?
Whose interests are served by the blanket demonization of activism per se?
Conversely, whose interests would be harmed by acknowledging the connections among NHL product, overwrought ersatz nationalism, unfettered testosterone, economic privation and too much cheap alcohol?
Hmmm ...
Yer on the money a hunnert percent's worth, OB. This was sports hooliganism and not political anarchism. Testosterone + immaturity.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteAnother valid comparison, which for some absurd reason escaped me, would have been English football. Which is another case that the sports columnists probably would have been happy to talk about had they been consulted. Ah, well.
The fact that CBC employs a militaristic right-wing goon as special commentator for their hockey programs should be all the evidence that is needed that hockey is not exactly a cesspool of anarchist sentiment.
